Vegan Lip Care
This past Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, California in March, 2011, veganism was a hot topic. Veganism is a relatively new category in the health food industry. That said, it is extremely popular. The more people are thinking about social sustainability and the environment, thoughts are being turned to the preservation of animals more than ever before. The isles were full of vegan products. In fact, at the trade show, it was stated that above gluten free and raw is vegan. Raw restaurants and gluten free bakeries are extremely popular. On the east coast of Canada (where Lip Labz is based), we tend to be a little behind the times when it comes to the latest and greatest innovations in health food. However, on the west coast of Canada and in large metropolitan cities in the U.S., gluten free bakeries and raw restaurants are surprisingly common. Under the umbrella of gluten free shops in the U.S. are the vegan options. There are many vegan options in gluten free bakeries. Many restaurants now offer both vegetarian and vegan options.
In eastern Canada, veganism is not at the level of where it is in the U.S. but it is catching up quickly. If you are a store that offers cutting edge products, carrying a vegan line is extremely important. If your mandate is to target all walks of life with a plethora of different products, vegan items are definitely a necessity for your retail outlet.
There are very few natural vegan lip balms on the market, virtually none that are produced in Canada. They are also not available in a wide variety of flavours or colours. At Lip Labz, we feel that variety is the spice of life. That said, offer your vegan customers only the best possible products with the most variety. We offer the most fantastic array of flavours and we know you will find a flavour that matches your vegan customers and they will get hooked!
We make the following Vegan Lip Balms:
-Lemon-Lime
-Watermelon-Peach
-Mango.
Lip tints are very popular. They are in between a lip gloss and a lipstick. They are wonderfully moisturizing but also offer a splash of colour. Lip tints have a matte base but contain mineral colourants that are shimmery and iridescent.
The colours we use are micas. Micas are mineral deposits that form in thin layers or plains. Structurally, they are very flat sheets that are fused together lengthwise by intricate connections. They do not have connections in between the layers and can easily be separated. In our lip tints, the micas that we use are ground. When they are crushed into a powder, they become like tiny mirrors. Because they have such a flat surface structure, they reflect light very effectively. These powdered colourants are very shimmery due to their molecular structure.
If you consider iridescence and the rainbow effect, they are essentially the same. A rainbow is created on a perfectly flat and smooth surface when there is light interference.
Consider a wave of light. When waves of light have an object interfere with them, they bounce. They bounce off a flat surface because they no longer line up properly. This chaotic wave output allows the rays of light to be distorted and flipped around. As these waves cancel each other out, or interfere, a rainbow is created. Colours are created in these new patterns depending on how much interference occurs.
We make the following Vegan Lip Tints:
-Fairy Dust (a pearlescent pink)
-Bronze Age (a shimmery copper)
-Flare (a coral-based red)
-Crushed Velvet (a rich burgundy)
-Eden (a deep plum)
-Lotus Flower (an orangy-pink)
