Ryan and Adina founded Lip Labz in 2007. Here’s why:

In 1996, Adina and Ryan met and became friends in high school. They drifted over the years, but shared some common friends. It was while in university, a common friend reunited the two, and they hit it off immediately. Adina and Ryan have been together since 1999 and enjoyed many experiences together. The two lovers have always had entrepreneurial minds. They had a knack for business and in 2001, started Soap Buds and sold little soaps to over 800 retailers across the North America in the span of seven years. But it wasn’t enough, it started off as a creative venture but overtime became very routine. It wasn’t creative and it wasn’t anything new. In 2008, Soap Buds closed. Adina and Ryan took a year off to play, create and invent.

The two packed up their Toronto home and moved north to a tiny beach community, Wasaga Beach, Ontario. They loved it, big parties that everyone who came will always remember, fresh air, hiking trails, a beautiful lake, to name a few. But they also had a 400 square foot garage where they tinkered and plotted the next big move. When things slowed down in the winter and friends locked themselves indoors safe from the 20 foot snow drifts, Adina and Ryan dreamed big. They dreamed of the next best thing they wanted to create.

They brainstormed all winter-long. They knew they wanted to create an experience for their customers rather than a product. Flavoured lip balm was already exciting for kids and adults not to mention they already had all the equipment to make lip balm. They felt lip balm needed a twist - let the guests choose how they wanted their lip balm mixed up.

Adina sourced some of the most popular and tasty flavours from around the world. Ryan got building and hammered together a heating box that could melt and display the liquid balm. That summer they pulled out of their garage a refrigerator-sized box that held 12 glass jars lit by upside down bright red heat lamps. It looked ugly, it was dangerous, it was held together with hockey tape, but it worked! They showcased it at the Canadian National Exhibition in Toronto that summer and sold out of one ounce tubs by the second weekend. They searched the city to find more empty containers but couldn’t! They settled for the traditional five millilitre lip balm twist up tube thinking it wasn’t going to work. They couldn’t have been more wrong! The twist up tubes were even more popular and sold out again by the next weekend! They had increased their sales by over 400%!

The next few years were spent on improvements in size, safety and looks. Lip Labz has created line-ups at popular venues time after time. With ever-improving designs and flavours Lip Labz customers keep coming back for a one-of-a-kind experience. Not to mention the Lip Labz also designs your own lip gloss in a station like the lip balm!

Just wait and see what is next in the pipeline at Lip Labz! There is always something in the works!

Make it a great day
